Alexandria CO #3

My last class observation was Leslie Wagner, whom taught reading. She started the class like the other two teachers I observed, which was with the agenda. She then went into some reading skills that the students could use before they start reading, which was skimming and scanning. I felt that these were important skills the students could use because skimming can help them quickly find the main idea of the story, and scanning can help with TOEFL testing by looking into specific information. There was this one student in the class that caused distribution, and Ms.Wagner handled it very well by telling him to focus on the lesson. I was quite shocked that students still misbehaved during class, but was impressed with the way Ms.Wagner handled the situation.  After the students understood the meaning of skimming and scanning, she put it to practice. At the end of the class she read to them a novel they were reading. She would them ask them questions in between on what is happening in the story. I think observing the reading lesson was my favorite one, and I admired the way she taught it.
