Miles TS#1

Tuesday May 12, 2015 - Today, I met with Nedal Abad Kamel for the first time. We treated this first tutoring session as an introduction and diagnostic meeting. After speaking with Nedal for a little while, I learned that he is from Jordan and moved to Tallahassee five months ago. When he first arrived in Tallahassee, he said that the only English words he knew were "yes," "no," and "thank you." He began in the foundations level group at CIES and, five months later, is now in Group 1. Immediately, It was apparent that Nedal over used (or misused) simple present verb tenses. However, he voiced to me his want to focus on spelling, reading, and vocabulary. Because Nedal is still fairly new to the area, I will try to incorporate local topics into our sessions. He was very eager to begin and looked forward to improving his English reading skills especially.
