O'Neill CP # 2
Last night I met with my conversation partner Solaiman Abed. I picked
him up from his apartment and had coffee at Starbucks. He is from
Kuwait. He told me about his family and his hometown. He says he lives
by the beach in Kuwait City. He told me about all of his travels to the
pyramids in Egypt, Paris and Vienna, and his experiences in the US. I
asked him which European country he liked the most and he told me it was
Austria. He says he likes Austria because Vienna is very much like New
York City. He loves cities where there is a lot to do. He told me that
he had gone to some countries with his track group for training, but
other places he had gone to as a tourist. He told me many Arabic English
students have difficulty pronouncing tourist vs terrorist, and some
have been deported from saying the wrong term. We talked about
discrimination, something he told me he has felt in this country. He
says that his motto is to not believe the media, instead, go and see for
yourself. I definitely agree with him, but also forgot to mention that
most people don't have the luxury to go see for themselves.
