Shanti TS#5
On May 18 at 9:00 am I had my third tutoring session with DJ. He gets better at speaking and expressing himself every time we speak. We began with talking about our weekends. He told me about his trip to Treasure Island with his friends. I asked if he went treasure hunting as a joke but he did not understand what treasure hunting was. I explained it by using Pirates of the Caribbean. He then understood what I meant and thought it was funny. I was glad to see that he was able to understand what I was saying. I spoke slower this time to ensure he caught everything I said. The one thing that he had a really hard time explaining to me was the way age worked in Korea. It was a complicated subject but he got his point across eventually. He wanted to tell me that age was a sensitive subject in South Korea because of the person was not the same age as you then you couldn't call each other friends you had to call each other older brother. He expressed that he did not like how this worked in a very clear way. He made very few mistakes. The mistakes were always along the lines of the wrong English expression which I then corrected. For example he said "in the recent days" instead of "recently". Overall though he did very well. He really likes to talk and speaks more and more every time without me asking. I am very proud to see his quick progress.
