Bria TS #4

My tutee asked me what is the difference between a and a, an and an, and the and the. You are probably wondering about this difference as well. It has to do with pronunciations of the words. Un versus ey. Uh versus an. Thuh versus thee. I did not realize that I was switching between the two pronunciations, which confused my tutee sometimes. I learned that I should be more consistent with and conscious of my word choice. Since a person puts more emphasis on the articles “a” and “an” when he or she says ey and an, I learned that I should use these pronunciations instead of un and uh when I am tutoring someone. This way I can get into the habit of articulating my words. As for thuh and thee, I did not know the difference between the two. I told my tutee this and said that I would look up the reason for this difference. However, I did not have to look far because I learned the difference from my tutee. I learned that thuh goes before a word that starts with a consonant sound and thee goes before a word that starts with a vowel sound. This tutoring session was a learning experience for both parties.
