Shanti TS#6
Today I tutored David at the Public library. His mother wanted us to finish his math homework before reading. He had three pages of division problems. I let him solve the questions and then I would check them. He would get distracted often and when he did I would tell him he would get candy when we finished and he would go straight back to work. Today we were starting a new book, Charlie and the Chocolate factory. I brought coloring supplies and had him draw a picture of what he thought would happen in the book. I then had him explain to me what he drew and what he thought would happen. Then we read one chapter of the book. David struggled a lot through the chapter. He usually chooses easy short books so this was a little difficult for him. He would mispronounce words and then I would correct him. One word he had trouble with a lot was "torture". I plan to go over this word again next session. Due to choosing easy books before I had not realized just how much he struggled with reading. After we were done though he ran to his mother and told her how he had finished all his math homework. David doesn't act like he cares how he does but he is always very proud in the end. Next session I will bring apples to apples cards with more difficult words and have him make stories using the words. Overall David did very well considering the amount of math homework he had to do plus reading.
