When I met with
my conversation partner on May 11th, he was very excited about the
date. I did not know what was so special about this date, and he could not
believe that I had no idea about what May 11th meant. When I asked
him about the date, he told me that it was the day that Bob Marley died. After
I did some research, I learned that Marley died on May 11, 1981 in Miami,
Florida. My conversation partner also told me that May 11th is a big
day in Africa because it is when everyone celebrates this man and
his accomplishments. He showed me that his friends were posting pictures of
Marley online in honor of this man. My partner continued to talk about what he
would do in his country if he was there, such as party in the streets with everyone else. He wished that he was back home so that he could celebrate Marley’s life with everyone.
