Shanti CO#1

On May 18 at 11:00 am I observed foundations reading class. I thought it was very interesting to see the things we have learned in action. For example I really like the way she corrected the student. When they would mispronounce something or say the wrong thing she would question them and let them fix the mistake themselves. For example, when a student said "for" instead of "from" she stopped an went "for?" And then the student would correct themselves. Another way she would have them correct themselves is ask them what was wrong with their sentences and why. She would also occasionally ask them to spell things and review the names of punctuation. I also found the environment very relaxing and comfortable. The students seemed like they were having a lot of fun and were eager to answer questions and read. I think the key to this was how the teacher acted. She treated them as if they were friends. When she asked them about their weekends she would respond back as if she was their friend instead of just moving on to the next student. The students really seemed to like her class. The main thing I noticed was her voice. She spoke slow, clear, and would change the tone of her voice to let them know something was different or important. Overall I found the class very interesting and hope to be able to teach a class like she does one day.
