Today I observed Ms. Victoria Davis’s Group 2 Grammar
Class. The class began with a student giving a presentation on another student.
She explained that his name from Arabic to English translates into “Slave for
God”. Ms. Davis gave me a rubric, and described that these oral presentations
are a way for her to gauge the language abilities of her students. For the
remainder of the class, the students focused on Simple Past Tense. They read an
article of British settlers who went missing in the early stages of U.S.
colonization, near Plymouth Rock. The students were given 7 minutes to write,
using the simple past tense, 3 theories that could describe the disappearance of
the settlers. They worked in pairs. Before class ended, Ms. Davis gave the
students a handout of irregular verbs. The students were given the remainder of class
to put the irregular verbs into simple past tense, and provide definitions.
