Kane TS#2
My second tutoring session took place Sunday May 3rd. This was my second session with P.J, and this time we had a book about storms to read. I was told by P.J's mother that he wasn't the biggest reader, and had a hard time reading for comprehension. The book we read, "Storms", was a little advanced for P.J but it wasn't anything we couldn't complete and comprehended together. P.J would have to take an AR(assigned reading) quiz when he was back in school, so I had to make sure that he understood and retained everything we had read in the book. The main point of my lesson for this session was vocabulary words that P.J probably didn't know, so we started off with a basic explanation of the different storms within the book(blizzard, hurricane, tornado, hail storm, etc.). With the help of visual aids and drawings P.J was able to grasp a basic understanding of each of these storms before we started getting into the nitty-gritty details of the book. It took a little longer than an hour to complete the book, many breaks were taken to admire the pictures of these various storms, but it seemed as though P.J was comprehending most of the ideas and new vocabulary within. After finishing the book I asked P.J some questions about storms and the book. If P.J answered right we moved on, if he answered wrong or couldn't remember the answer we flipped through the pages and re-read certain paragraphs until P.J was able to get them right. Tutor session #2 went very smooth and I am very excited for our next meeting together.
