Katie CP #1
Today I met with Youssef and we walked around the campus. Youssef got to Tallahassee April 10th. He moved here to pursue a masters degree in economics. He said that he already has a masters degree in accounting that he got from his home country, Burkina Faso. Youssef told me that he is better at understanding English than he is at speaking English. He has been practicing English for a year and in two months he wants to take the TOEFL test so that he can go to school here. Youssef has an older brother who is an engineer and a younger sister who still both live in Burkina Faso. I learned that Youssef joined the military because in his country, after school, everyone joins the military. After after serving a few years they can choose to drop out if they wish. It has been five years since Youssef has been in the military. Youssef said that his biggest struggle here is that he does not know where to go to hang out. I recommended places such as the capitol building, Lake Ella, and Poor Pauls. I also recommended places to eat Youssef said that he likes sushi and burgers so I told him that Burgerfi and Five Guys were healthy alternatives to McDonald's Burger King and recommended Masa and Jasmine Cafe for sushi restaurants. Youssef said that most of the time he prefers to cook at home and typically makes rice, chicken, and beans. Youssef has a roommate who arrived in Tallahassee at the same time as him, but Youssef said that his roommate doesn't like to go out a lot.
