Bria TS #2

During my tutoring session, my tutee said that he has problems with speaking in complete sentences. In order to find out the level of his speaking skills, I asked him to talk about something that is interesting to him, and he choose to talk about South Korean wedding ceremonies. After a few minutes, I found out that my tutee has some trouble with using the right verb in a sentence. For example, he said that the wedding company will “furnish people” if you do not have anyone to come to your wedding. I explained to him that you do not “furnish people” because people are not furniture. I also explained that this verb is used for furniture. I gave him a few example sentences for how to use this verb and for how to not use this verb. In addition, I suggested that my tutee speak in English as much as possible in order to improve his English. He said that he feels ashamed when he makes mistakes. Due to this, I suggested that he try speaking English to someone who does not know English. If he talks to someone who does not know English, he can still practice his English, correct his mistakes, and not feel ashamed about the mistakes because the other person would not know if he made a mistake. However, I did tell him that he has to be more aware about what he is saying if he does this.
