My first class observation
was a great experience. I attended Felicia Ciappetta's Group 1A Grammar class on
Wednesday at 9 AM. I enjoyed watching how she made the students feel
comfortable by calling each one by their names, playing some music before class
began, and overall just being very approachable. She connected the lesson to a
theme, this week being technology, and would make the activities ones that
involved error correction and discussing the grammar topic as a group. Her
approach was very student centered and really interactive. At the end of the
class she had an activity where she would have the students answer a question
about themselves and anytime they misused grammar, she would use a beep sound
so that they would correct themselves. This was great to show the class the
positive part of making “beautiful mistakes” and have them practice speaking
and getting to know each other. It was a very positive experience and exciting
for me to imagine myself doing something similar in the future.
