Carolina CP#1

As an English conversation partner I am able to make new friends, learn about other cultures, and help someone improve their speaking skills. My English Speaking partner is a 17 year old who just graduated from High School and is at CIES to better his English. He is from Bucaramanga, Colombia, which is actually a place I have been to. I too was born in Colombia, so our culture is not all that different but our upbringing has been different since I have done most of my growing up in the United States. I enjoyed helping him out because since I also spoke Spanish, he could ask me how to say certain words or better say his ideas. We only spoke in English and I think he felt very comfortable speaking with me about his interest and about Tallahassee and the different traditions here at FSU. I used my Bilingual skills to help this student and new friend practice his second language and become more confident as a speaker.
