Today
I met with Ilboudo at the CIES and we got to know each other. Ilboudo is from
West Africa and loves to play soccer, read, and play the drums. He is a very
sweet boy, and tries very hard to speak English. Ilboudo told me that his
biggest challenge in trying to learn English is his interpretive listening
skills. I thought a good way to practice this skill would be to listen to
music, because that is something that we had in common. We both love music.
Ilboudo likes gospel music, so I told him I would do some research and look up
some good American Gospel Artists and make him a playlist so that he can
practice his listening skills in a fun way. He also told me that he
has been wanting to go to church since he arrived in America but doesn’t know
where to go, so maybe one day next week the two of us are going to go to a mass
at Saint Thomas Moore Church across the street from campus. I am excited to
keep practicing English with Ilboudo. Even though he is only a group 1 student,
he has only been here for one month and I think his English is very impressive!
