For my first tutoring session I observed Shanti tutor over Skype, and it was an interesting experience. I was wondering how she helps her tutee since it is over the internet, but while they were talking she wrote down mistakes that he made and made the conversation really friendly. She started the conversation with asking him how his weekend was, which made it feel as if two good friends were talking. When she could not understand him, she would try to describe things to him or breaking things down for him to try to get what he was saying. I admire the way she tutored him, and felt that tutoring over the internet is possible! At the end of their tutoring session Shanti encouraged her tutee by telling him how well he had done, and that he did not make the same mistakes as last week. I thought that it was great that she gave him positive feedback! However, he did not seem very pleased with it because he still believed that he did not deserve such praise. I believe the only challenge she has with him is helping him with getting him to accept praise. It was a great experience getting to see Shanti tutor, and hopefully I can be as friendly and helpful as her in my tutoring sessions!
