Alexandria TS #13

Monday, June 8, I tutored Abdullah. I asked how his weekend was, and he said it was okay. He told me that this was boring because it was finals week, and that there was not a lot left to do. After our conversation, I showed him ways that he could use transition words when writing an essay. I gave him words to use, and examples. Abdullah found it very useful, and was pleased with the examples as well. After that we had a quick discussion about the TOEFL. He told me a bit about the composition part, and said that it was frustrating for him to write everything within 30 minutes. I gave him some strategies that he could use. For example, using a web to organize his ideas. He thought that it was helpful, but still believed it was hard. I told him it takes practice to get the hang of it. At the end we had a conversation on jobs, and he recommended me places to teach English in Saudi Arabia. It was helpful information, and I enjoyed our conversation at the end. I plan on having topics from the composition part ready next time we meet so we can work on that together.
