O'Neill TS # 12
I met with my child tutee Rina Oh in the morning on June 9th. Since she was finished with school, we could meet in the mornings and between Catherine and I we tutored both her child tutee and mine at the same time. It was a great experience tutoring alongside Catherine because I learned so much from her. She obviously has more experience than I do and was so professional and knowledgeable at what she was doing. For this session I brought in a reading on the Renaissance and another reading on the artist Gustav Klimt. We started out with the short article on Klimt's biography. We had both girls take turns reading each paragraph. Catherine taught me how to check for comprehension along the way and also showed me how to get the girls interested in the reading through comprehension checks. After we were done with the article we moved onto the Renaissance reading. The reading was pretty thick, so we decided to have both girls choose their favorite paintings from the pictures and come up with why they enjoy the paintings and an interesting fact they learned by reading the caption underneath the picture. So they did. Once they were done with reading and figuring out what they would say, we had them present to us the pictures and inspire us with new information. It was a fun session.
