Today I tutored Matthew. His mom gave me Jolly Ranchers to give him at the end of the session. Matthew was better today than he was last week. Kyle observed our session today. I began with having Matthew do some math problems, at his mothers request. I like to begin with math because Matthew doesn't mind math as much as reading and it is a good way to get him to begin to focus. As Matthew did his math homework, I went through the book for today and wrote down vocabulary words. After the math homework, I asked Matthew about his day at camp. He said that his camp is boring because it is a study camp, but then we talked about how his dad is taking them to Lego Land for attending study camp. After this conversational break we began reading. We got through one chapter of the book. Matthew read the first five pages easily but after that he started to get bored. To try and keep him motivated I reminded him of the candy and told him to read aloud. After he finished the chapter, we went over the math problems that he got wrong. At the end of the session I gave him his candy.
