Friday May, 15, 2015 - Nedal came over to my house, and we set up a study area in the living room. For this tutoring session, Nedal and I discussed vocabulary associated with restaurants and dining out. First, I read through the list of vocabulary words, having Nedal repeat the word after me to help with pronunciation. Next, I went over the meaning of each word using google images to include visual aids to my explanations. For each vocabulary word, after I gave the definition and explanation, I had Nedal use the word in an example sentence. Here is a list of the vocabulary words that we worked on:
- cafeteria
- coffee shop
- deli
- fast food restaurant
- pizzeria (pizza parlor)
- atmosphere
- booth
- cheap / reasonable / expensive
- chef
- customer
- delicious
- decor
- host (hostess)
- meal
- menu
- receipt
- reservation
- server
- service
- special of the day
- table
- tip (gratuity)
This lesson can be found on esl-lab.com. Finally, I asked Nedal some questions that would require him to think critically and analyse the context. He enjoyed this lesson very much and we resolved to include similar vocabulary lesson like this in the future.
