Miles TS#12
Tuesday June 16, 2015 - For today's tutoring session, I decided to focus on Subject/verb agreement because Nedal has displayed confusion in past sessions. I began the session with an explanation about what subject/verb agreement is. Simply put, I explained that in each complete sentence, the subject of the sentence must agree with the verb (in terms of singular or plural). He understood the need for agreement, so I completed a few example sentences with him. I created five sentences that had blank lines where the verb should be; underneath the sentences, I gave singular and plural verb forms to choose from. Together, we went over each sentence and decided whether or not the subject was singular or plural. Next, I had Nedal choose the correct verb form. After we worked together on these first five examples, I had Nedal try on his own to complete a subject/verb agreement quiz on eslcafe.com. He passed the quiz but still struggled with the "you" subject. Yet, after an explanation of the "you" rule ("you" is always treated as plural), he successfully completed another subject/verb agreement quiz. Although this lesson was not the most enjoyable or fun for Nedal, he was very happy to have learned the subject/verb agreement concept.
