Miles TS#14
Friday June 19, 2015 - Because Nedal is out of school for a week, I decided to make today's tutoring session vocabulary oriented. Nedal sometimes works with his cousin at the convenience store located in Frenchtown, so I thought it would be a good idea to teach him some vocabulary associated with business and commerce. First, I presented Nedal with a list of vocabulary words that he is likely to encounter working at the convenience store. I had him read each word aloud, making sure that he was using correct pronunciation. I repeated any words that he pronounced wrong and had him repeat after me. Next, we went back over each word; this time, I defined and explained each word suing google images a visual aid. After I explained each word, I asked Nedal if he had any experience with the word while working in the convenience store. Finally, I had Nedal use each of the words in a sentence --verbally. I think that he enjoyed this lesson very much because he is able to apply the new vocabulary to his everyday life. He was excited to show his cousin some of the new things that he learned because his cousin is very supportive of Nedal's English learning.
