Catherine TS#16

My last tutoring session with Zoe coincided with my last day at CIES. Colleen and I co-tutored Zoe and her sister, Rina, again. Colleen brought a reading passage on the artist Edvard Munch and his most famous painting, "The Scream". The girls really enjoyed the topic, although, not so much the reading assignment. We both tried to make reading fun for them by providing a topic they were both interested in, and asking them questions throughout. We spent the entire time going over the passage, stopping to ask them main idea and vocabulary questions. Towards the end, we were able to discuss art history and its movements. The girls learned reading comprehension, as well as the history of Expressionism. We were all very fortunate to have Colleen there to guide us, since she is a painter ande an art student. I know my tutee, Zoe, really enjoyed reading and discussing art mediums: oil, tempura, and pastels. This activity allowed her to learn new and challenging vocabulary as a young artist herself!
