Kane TS#10
For our second session I met Kwon at CIES to help him with an essay. For his writing class Kwon had to write and essay about culture shock and if he was affected by culture shock when he first arrived in The United States. The first thing I did was explain to Kwon the way paragraphs and essays are formatted to give the reader an enjoyable read. I explained to him that an essay is a sandwich, the two pieces of bread are the intro and conclusion paragraphs and they must be strong. I then explained the body paragraphs and what those should contain. After a couple laughs and sandwich jokes Kwon and I got to making an outline. We made a basic outline that Kwon had learned to make in class. He could think of two things that were weird to him when he came to the U.S., the first was the trash system. Korea has an expansive recycling program and Kwon was surprised when he found out everyone throws everything away without recycling. The second culture shock was bathrooms and bathroom culture. Kwon is use to going to spas at the end of the day to relax. He said he is still getting use to this but its getting better. We finished the outline and started the introduction paragraph. Kwon will finish the rest by himself before the due date.
