Kyle TS #10
Using the results of my last session with Enrique, I brought some more challenging readings for him. I actually had help from Bria, as we were preparing our host-country presentation, on some materials that focus on finding contextual clue errors in readings that are grammatically correct. This actually proved to be quite a fruitful endeavor for Enrique and I as he truly did have difficulty finding more than half of the errors in the sentence. Not to say he didn't find any, but it reinforces how much students emphasize the importance of grammar and how that can actually be detrimental to their understanding of what someone is saying. I worked with Enrique on all of the errors, and spent an ample amount of time on each one so he would understand why it is incorrect, how we would say it correctly, and how the incorrect form of the error would be used in other, correct contexts. Enrique is moving out of state in less than a week, so I am trying to utilize my time with him as much as possible, while still focusing on my other tutees and conversation partners, though it is difficult because he lives in Georgia and it can be a hassle for him or I to drive far distances when he isn't in Tallahassee for class. Now that classes are over, I think I'll have to plan longer outings with him.
