Shanti TS#13

On Monday June 8 I tutored David. H was already tired from going to study camp all day but he still was willing o do his work. We did 4 pages of math. He had forgotten how to do that math so I retaught it to him. This took time because I had to show him a couple times before he fully understood how to do it. After we read some of The Lego Movie book. We read only one chapter because the pages were longer and more difficult. Then he wanted to know if I was going to tutor him again after our last session next week. I told him I wouldn't be back till January but if he wanted I could tutor him when I came back. He said he would like that. Then he told me how he liked his old tutor better than me but I wasn't offended because he said that he liked her because she didn't make him do any work at all. She just talked to him. He then gave me 3 reasons he didn't like me and again I wasn't offended. He said he didn't like me because I made him read, I talked to his mom, and I made him do math. Then he told me he also liked me because I gave him candy. I felt really good that even though I made him do things he didn't like he still wanted me to be his tutor again. He was also blushing while he told me he wanted me to be his tutor again. I was very flattered. I told his mom that he asked for me to be his tutor again and I told her that maybe when I came back I could be. She was very surprised he requested this because he usually hates to be tutored. He also told me that he wants to read but he doesn't feel like reading. I was very happy with this progress because usually he just tells me that he hates reading and doesn't want to do it. So I felt that him saying he wanted to read but didn't feel like it was major progress. Overall it was a really good tutoring session.
