My second session with Youssef went very well. Today we focused on TOEFL style speaking activities. In these activities the student is given a prompt, he must listen to the prompt. After he hears the prompt he is given 45 seconds to brainstorm. After brainstorming the student must respond with a 1-2 minute speaking response. We worked on many of these together. I showed Youssef how to brainstorm and get the most out of the 45 seconds he was granted. Youssef’s speaking skills are not that bad, like Kwon and most other language learners he is scared to talk. After a couple TOEFL exercises we spent the rest of the time talking about different things. I want him to feel comfortable when speaking and listening to we worked a lot on that. This was my last tutoring session with Youssef because he is leaving for Burkina Faso soon for a summer vacation.
