For this tutoring session I met with Youssef. Youssef was assigned to be but his computer was broken so he didn't get back to me right away. I eventually observed a class he was in and able to set a time for tutoring. Youssef is from Burkina Faso and speaks French. He is a group 2 student and is aiming to pass the TOEFL in the hopes of attending graduate school somewhere in the United States. Since this was the first time meeting Youssef I wanted to get to know him some before making him do a bunch of exercises and worksheets. We talked about many things including movies, games, tv shows, life in Burkina Faso, and life in America. Youssef attends the after school TOEFL class at CIES so he is always learning. I will try and make the activities we do fun as to not bore him with school work. He said he wanted to focus mainly on speaking and listening and I agreed. I will have some TOEFL material prepared for him when we meet again.
