Carolina TS#11

This past tutoring session was with my conversation partner Camilo, who asked me to help him understand a statement of purpose for college entrance. We met up for coffee and I told him about my college essay writing process and showed him my essay for FSU. After that I had a sheet breaking down the process of writing a personal statement. I used resources from the Office of National Fellowship and we talked about the use of anecdotes in a personal essay. Using examples of an introduction with an anecdote and one without one, he was able to see the power that an anecdote has. It was exciting to see his English journey and how he does not want to his current momentum. I told him I would be happy to help him edit his outlines and direct his ideas in the right direction. Overall, I felt that he benefited from this session and enjoyed talking about his dream of studying in the US.
