Miles TS#13

Thursday June 13, 2015 - Today's tutoring session topic was on simple past and past continuous verb tenses. I've noticed that Nedal only uses the simple past tense, and he has expressed to me that he is unsure about when and how to use the past progressive tense. I began the session by explaining simple past tense verbs. I told him that simple past is used to refer to something that happened before. Then, I explained that past progressive is used to talk about something that was happening before (for a period of time). Next, I gave examples of each. Nedal seemed to have understood the difference between the two tenses and when to use each. After I felt comfortable that Nedal understood the concept, I had him complete an online quiz on eslcafe.com Each question on the quiz offered a sentence with different verb choices (simple past and past progressive). Nedal completed the quiz, showing adequate understanding of the difference between the two tenses. For the remainder of the session, I had Nedal give me examples of simple past and past progressive verb usage verbally.
