Lane CO #2

This classroom observation took place on May 28th in the CIES building. I observed a speaking class that was taught by Mr. Wallace Gowens. I tried to pay special attention to this class because at this point I was already signed up to co-teach a speaking class with Shanti Franceour. Some things that I observed in the speaking class were that quiet students tended to gravitate towards other quiet students to work together; however, Mr. Gowens was sure to work around the class room and pay attention to all of the students working together on the assignment, thereby motivating the more shy students to interact with each other more or at least to still benefit from the class despite having personalities or preferences that seem to lend themselves less to conversation. Also, the emphasis on beautiful mistakes both as manifesting actual exercises as well as moments in the lesson to notice seemed really successful and like something I would want to employ in my classroom strategies.
