O'Neill TS # 13
Once again Catherine and I tutored our children tutees together. This session I brought in an article on the biography of Edvard Munch. The reading was pretty long so we definitely had the children take turns reading each paragraph. The subject was also pretty deep, discussing problems he had experienced such as depression and deaths in his family. I definitely printed out an article appropriate for children, it wasn't anything that would scare the girls, but it was a reading with new words in which context clues wasn't enough for them to figure out meaning. Just like last session with Gustav Klimt, this session I chose a biography of an artist from the collection of historical pictures they have hanging in their tutoring room. The picture they have hanging is called The Scream, which deals with very deep emotional issues the painter was experiencing at the time. It was definitely a great opportunity to have an artistic discussion as well as a perfect opportunity to practice their reading comprehension. Once again, it was a fun and educational experience for all of us.
