Tuesday May 26, 2015 - For today's tutoring session, I decided to focus on the proper use of adjectives and adverbs. Nedal had a strong understanding of how to use both from our previous tutoring session at my house. Again, I invited Nedal over to my house and set up a study area in the living room. I began by verbally quizzing him on the purpose and use of adjectives and adverbs. he was able to tell me the that adjectives are used to describe nouns and adverbs to describe verbs, so I wanted him to practice using both correctly. First, I made a list of adverbs and adjectives on a sheet of paper for Nedal to choose from. Next, I had Nedal number a paper from one to ten and title it, "Adjectives." On this paper, Nedal was required to write ten sentences using at least ten different adjectives from the list. I then had him repeat the exercise on another sheet of paper entitled, "Adverbs." Nedal only slightly struggled with the "Adverb" sheet and, only for a couple sentences, used an adjective where an adverb was necessary. This exercise gave Nedal much needed practice in using adjectives and adverbs correctly, and it allowed to me deduce some other areas that he could use improvement in.
