Lane TS #10
On June 8th, I skyped Jun-suk who lives in South Korea. It was a brief but I think successful tutoring session. Since it was morning where he was, he was eating breakfast at the time, which made engaging him in the speech practice I prepared a little difficult; however, knowing that he had multiple tutors as well as school to attend, I didn't want to pressure him too much. Rather, this tutoring session became a more impromptu discussion of football, television, and Korean history. I found that these were things Jun was really interested in, so it was better to let him guide the conversation in a way rather than being coercive and strict. This evoked a lot more effusiveness and intrinsic motivation from Jun. I still have a lot more to learn about tutoring young kids, but this particular session taught me some new things.
