Bria TS #12

During this session, my tutee wanted some help with his listening homework. His assignment was to interview four people with five questions that he came up with about college and its cost. He had a recording of one person that he interviewed. However, my tutee could not understand the interviewee. I wanted to find out what the problem was because the interviewee spoke somewhat fast and spoken very casually. First, I decided to see if my tutee could not understand the interviewee because of her speech rate. If that was not the problem, then I would see if my tutee could not understand the interviewee because of her causal way of speaking. So, I tried out my first decision and repeated what the interviewee said but at a slower pace. I found out what the problem was because my tutee understood me. So long story short, I learned that my tutee just needs more practice listening to people who speak at a faster pace. One idea that I came up with is inviting my tutee to hang out and speak with my friends and I so that he can practice his listening skills and, as an extra bonus, his speaking skills.
