Katie TS #11

Today I observed Kyle's tutoring session with Nyun. When Nyun showed up she was very tired. Kyle began by asking her about her weekend and what she did today to get her in a talkative mood. The topic today was the body, so they talked about bones and muscles and their functions. First, Kyle used a fun book with some clear pages. He used some kinesthetic learning techniques by having Nyun point to the part of the body they were talking about. After going through the book, Kyle had a worksheet for Nyun to complete. The work sheet was a list of body parts with scrambled letters, so Nyun has to unscramble the letters to make a familiar word. Kyle helped Nyun with this because it was kind of difficult. I think the activity was good though because it got Nyun to participate by writing down the answer. The activity also gave Nyun practice with spelling and sounding words out. The activity also offered visualization of the the new words that they talked about. Nyun seemed disinterested after a few words, so Kyle switched to just trying to engage her. Nyun perked up when they started talking the continents and South Korea, where she's from. Nyun was not in a very interactive mood today but I think that Kyle did a good job trying to encourage her to speak and participate.
