Katie TS #13
Today I met with Mohammed to go over adverbs with him. Mohammed requested that I meet with him because he said when his teacher described adverbs he had a hard time understanding it. I began the session by asking Mohammed about his day at school. Mohammed said that tomorrow CIES is going to Panama City but he is not because his favorite soccer team is playing, and he would rather watch that. To begin the lesson Mohammed opened his book to show me what adverbs they were talking about in class. They were talking about frequency, manner, and degree adverbs. To get an idea of where Mohammed was and what he wanted help on I asked him basic questions about adverbs and the class activities. As warm up we discussed the types of adverbs and listed examples of each kind. My grammar lesson plan was about adverbs so I had a neat list of frequently used adverbs and a couple example sentences. I gave Mohammed the paper with example adverbs and that seemed to help him quite a bit. Next we did a couple example sentences that I had from my lesson plan. After that I had Mohammed read a paragraph from his text book and underline the adverbs in the sentences. To finish, we went through the paragraph together and for each adverb I had Mohammed state what word it was modifying and what type of adverb it was. By the end of the paragraph Mohammed had significantly improved. He struggled the most with the adverbs when he did not know what the word meant, for example, exceptionally. Mohammed said that now he has a better understanding of adverbs.
