Kyle CO #1
The first class observation that I did was a 1A Beginner Speaking Class taught by Angel Rios. It was unfortunately a pretty simple class that focused the majority of the time on preparation for the final presentations that they had the following week. Each student was to prepare their own power point on a food of their choice and if they brought in that food for the rest of the class they would receive extra credit. Angel was very comfortable talking to the class and he had a great personality when talking to them, he even made a few jokes to the students. Most of the students spoke in their native language while working on the assignment, but they knew that they had to speak English with him. Angel spoke a few words of what I think is Arabic to give commands to the students, but mostly he spoke in English. Something fun that happened was I was able to help both one student and the teacher in telling them the verb "kneading" as the students had to explain the procedures for making their food. As simple as it was, it was nice being able to help and even for being praised for being an American.
