On Tuesday, I met with Anwer in the CIES lounge. We picked up where we left off from the day before, using the same article about the bilingual brain. We reread the outline that we made together, and I asked him to give me a brief summary (verbally) of the article. He faced some challenges with this, as the article was very overwhelming and level inappropriate. I told him to focus on the important parts, and omit all of the details that are not crucial information. Because this article had a lot of long words and details of each experiment, it was hard for Anwer to distinguish what was important for the summary and what wasn’t. But I assured him that we would get through it together. So, we took the outline piece by piece and wrote a summary. I had to help him a lot through this process, but after the first few paragraphs he started to get the hang of it. Anwer said that the outline we made was very helpful and so was the annotating. We also reviewed all of the vocabulary that he didn’t understand from the day before and he wrote all of the new words down in his journal so he could study them throughout the week.
